IntroductionUsually long-distance cruising is something one works up to along with the size of their motorcycle. The common path is to start with a small bike and slowly increase the size and power as you gain experience. Hand iu hand with that comes the challenge of travelling further and further. But what did I do? Bought one of the largest bikes I could as a first machine and proceeded to ride long distance from day one. Hey, I didn't have time to "work up to a bigger bike and longer trips". I was over 50 already for God's sake. And in my first summer of riding I put on 20,000 km. Not bad. So this section of my website will be an ongoing account of some of our trips and some of the things we have learned along the way. As I find time I may add more details about motorcycle camping and long-distance touring. Enjoy. Motorcycle touring booksI have to admit we didn't do a lot of planning for any of our trips but I did do quite a bit of reading about long-distance touring to gain as much arm-chair experience as a rookie could. Here are some of the books that are available. Going the Extra Mile is a great book to get ready for any long trip and is written by one of the long-distance gurus of the motorcycling world. It covers pretty much everything you need to know that will make long-distance touring an easier challenge to undertake. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is planning their first big trip by bike, whether a few hundred miles or a few thousand.
